250 years

As we approach the 250th celebration of the founding of our country, the motto or mantra for this event is “250 YEARS OF FREEDOM”. Really? If the democrat liberals had their way the motto would actually be “NO FREEDOM EXISTS THAT WE CAN’T CANCEL”! Looking at the history of actions taken, and statutes passed by democrat-controlled administrations, we find that the First and Second Amendments to our Constitution have been so eroded that one might say that the freedoms supposedly guaranteed by these amendments are actually non-existent. Speech has been eviscerated to the point ...

Single-payer health care lacks credibility

Billionaire progressive activist and California gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer recently remarked: “Health care companies only care about one thing: profits. Single-payer now.” This is the same Tom Steyer who opposed single-payer when he ran for president in 2020. “Bernie Sanders was right,” he says. “Boy, was I wrong.” He still cannot explain how to pay for it. Take the proposed Constitution Pipeline, for instance. The benefits of ...

Fishing platform a matter of leadership

“An important step in creating new opportunities for anglers of all ability levels and ... a model for communities across the Commonwealth.” These are the words Cindy Adams Dunn, state Secretary of Conservation and Natural Resources, used to describe a new fishing platform at the Tomb Run Campground on the Pine Creek in Wednesday’s edition of the Sun-Gazette. We agree. We’ve long argued that one of our region’s most notable blessings is the abundance of beauty and of opportunity nature brings. We’ve long extolled the value of recreation in our region’s outdoors for ...

What other newspapers are saying: Conditions for detained immigrants worrisome

The state of New Jersey filed a lawsuit this week against the operator of a privately run immigration detention center in Newark, claiming that health inspectors were denied full access to the facility. It’s the latest reminder that the federal government’s immigration enforcement system desperately needs greater transparency and accountability. The facility, called Delaney Hall, has become a flash point in recent weeks. Reports of unsanitary and inhumane conditions, which have become disturbingly common among detention facilities nationwide, have resulted in violent clashes ...
