What makes the holidays special

We hope people can appreciate that they are blessed to live in our region. That is, if anything, even more true in December. From Candy Cane Lane to Santa’s Landing, Christmas parades in Hughesville and Loyalsock Township and elsewhere, the tree-lightings in Williamsport’s Brandon Park ...

First Amendment under attack

The Justice Department, under the President’s orders, is investigating all groups they view as extremist, particularly what they call Antifa. They continue to confuse an ideology with a physical group. “Antifa” stands for antifascist, it is not an organization. The administration therefore must be openly saying they are pro-fascist. That is the only conclusion one can arrive at. The Attorney General’s recent memo ordering US law enforcement to investigate “extremist groups” raises the false specter of left-wing political violence (with none to point to) as an excuse to ...

‘Merry Christmas’

I hear people saying “merry Christmas” where ever I go. I know it’s December and I searched my calendar. BUT I do not see her name anywhere. What other newspapers are saying: Norfolk Southern dodging accountability

Despite Norfolk Southern’s assertions that it would make things right in East Palestine — after a derailment back in February 2023, the company appears to continue to resist doing so. Most recently, it filed motions in federal court seeking to EXCLUDE expert testimony presented by the state of Ohio and the United States as part of ongoing litigation. The proposed $315 million federal settlement between Norfolk Southern and the U.S. Department of Justice is still pending. Among the challenged witnesses are three medical doctors who support Ohio’s effort for a long-term medical ...
