Williamsport rallies late and wins thriller against Wilkes-Barre Area

KINGSTON--The rain poured down throughout the second half. So did the penalties. But Williamsport's heads never went down. The Millionaires kept fighting, kept believing. The defense made repeated big stops and at the perfect time, the offense came together and produced its drive of the year. Williamsport earned Saturday's win against Wilkes-Barre area the hard way. Maybe is that is why it was so satisfying. The defense forced five turnovers and Williamsport ran 11 straight times on a game-winning 55-yard drive as George Whaley's 4-yard touchdown run with 28 seconds remaining ...

Penn State falls at home to unranked Illinois

STATE COLLEGE – Nobody can accuse Illinois of not earning its 20-18 overtime victory over Penn State on Saturday at Beaver Stadium. The Illini didn’t win in one overtime –- it won in nine overtimes, the longest game in NCAA history. After the teams ended regulation tied at 10-10, each team managed a field goal in the first and second overtimes. New NCAA rules for the third overtime and beyond gave each team for a single-play 2-point conversion attempt. That took a total of seven more overtimes to settle the ultimate outcome and Illinois finally – finally – prevailed on ...

North Penn-Mansfield improves to 5-4 by beating CMVT 41-0

ALMEDIA - Way back in Week 1 in late August, North Penn-Mansfield opened their season by being dominated by a veteran Canton team, and it looked like could be a long season full of growing pains for a very young Panther squad. While Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech is certainly nowhere near the caliber of Canton, the Panthers' progression from the first week of the season to being on the cusp of its rivalry game next week and the subsequent postseason was most definitely on display on Saturday afternoon in Columbia County. Kohen Lehman scored five touchdowns - halfway to the state record for ...

Wellsboro defeats Athens at home, 49-13

With just under three minutes to go in the second quarter and Wellsboro leading 28-0 over visiting Athens, Wellsboro’s student section began chanting, “We want Conner”. They got what they wanted. Two plays later, Conner Adams took a jet sweep and cut back against the grain into a hole only he saw, bounced off a tackler at the five yard line, and found the end zone for the third of five of his touchdowns on the night as Wellsboro upset Athens, 49-13. “I just saw the opening on the backside,” Adams said. “And then I saw the (cornerback) come in and I knew I just had to ...

Georgetown defeats Bucknell football

Georgetown defeated Bucknell, 29-21, on Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Hoyas (2-4, 1-2 PL) scored two touchdowns during the final six minutes of regulation to defeat the Bison (1-6, 0-3 PL) despite freshman quarterback Ethan Grady connecting with senior wide receiver Dominic Lyles for three touchdowns in his first collegiate start. Grady finished the game with 162 yards on 12 completions, with five going for 110 yards to Lyles. This represented Lyles's second career 100-yard game and a new career-high total in receiving yards; he also became the first Bison to ...
