Americana band to play 2 shows in Wellsboro

The Wellsboro Community Concert Association is presenting the third concert of its 2025-26 season for subscribers and the public at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 7 in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts, 104 Main St., Wellsboro.

Featured will be the popular band Driftwood of Binghamton, New York.

Driftwood will also perform a second concert for the public at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 8, in the Coolidge Theatre.

Veterans are being given a special half-price ticket discount on Saturday only. Theater seating is still available.

“There will be room for dancing at both,” a news release said.

Next weekend, if theater seating is still available for one or both concerts, beginning at 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 7 and 8 in the Deane Center lobby, season subscriptions for adults and for students ages 13 to 18 and individual tickets for these two concerts and others in the series will be for sale. Youngsters ages 12 and under are admitted free to the regular season concerts when accompanied by a paying adult.

“Known for their electrifying live shows, the five-member band will perform Americana folk rock with a nod to 1960s R&B, 1970s country rock, contemporary pop, folk and traditional Appalachian music,” the news release said. “Driftwood includes: founding members Joe Kollar and Dan Forsyth, both on guitar; Claire Byrne on violin, Joey Arcuri on upright bass and Sam Fishman on drums. Kollar, Forsyth and Byrne write original songs for the group and share the role of lead vocalist. Arcuri also sings.

Forsyth and Kollar formed Driftwood in 2006. Byrne joined the band in 2008, Arcuri in 2011, and Fishman in 2021.

The band released its first album in 2009 and began touring more heavily around that time. They embarked on their first cross-country tour in 2010.

“Right now, we are on our ‘Always on Tour’ tour. We’re always on the road. That’s just what we do,” Byrne said, according to the news release.

Driftwood has released eight studio and live albums, including: “Rally Day” in 2009; “A Rock and Roll Heart” in 2011; Driftwood” in 2013; “Live at Grassroots” in 2015; “City Lights” in 2016; “Driftwood Live at the Purple Fiddle” in 2018; “Tree of Shade” in 2019; and “December Last Call” and a single titled “Get It Done,” both in 2024.

“In Wellsboro, Driftwood will be playing fan favorites, such as ‘Sun’s Going Down,’ ‘Conquering Man’ and ‘Brother,'” the news release said.

“We will also perform songs from our most recent album, ‘December Last Call’ and some new songs we’ve been working on,” said Byrne.
