Over 50 residents brave cold for Wayne Township ice skating party

McELHATTAN — For those who enjoy spending time outdoors in the winter, this season has provided the right elements for ice skating. The cold and wind didn’t deter those who participated in the Winter Ice Skating Party held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the ice skating rink in Wayne Township. About 50 locals showed up, many spending a couple of hours on the ice. There were skaters with different abilities and everyone was respectful and helpful. Ice and Spice Weekend coming to Tioga County

Wellsboro is celebrating winter with Ice and Spice Weekend. According to a news release, next Saturday, Feb. 8, is Ice and Spice Weekend. Love will be in the air in downtown Wellsboro. Seven different ice sculptures symbolizing love and romance carved from 19 blocks of ice weighing 300 pounds apiece or 2.85 tons will be on display on sidewalks in front of Main Street businesses. Book review at library to examine Christiana riot

Friends of the JV Brown Library will present a book review with Dr. Keith Shenberger from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., Feb. 7 in the Lowry Room on the third floor of the library’s Welch Family Wing. Shenberger will review Bloody Dawn —the Christiana Riot and Racial Violence in the Antebellum North by Thomas P. Slaughter, according to a news release. There will be 15 different types of chili or chowder to taste at 15 sites in downtown Wellsboro and an opportunity to win a basket of chocolate at each of the 15 locations during the “Chili and Chowder With A Chance For Chocolate Taste-Off,” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Feb. 8. Trivia fundraiser planned

Jon Mackey (or his associate), who regularly poses questions to patrons of local eateries, will challenge the trivia knowledge of those who attend Quizzo at the Taber at 6 p.m., Feb. 8. The questions will be drawn from a broad range of categories including geography, sports, movies and music. There is a fee to participate and teams of up to six people may compete.
