FUSE Productions to kick off 2020 with ‘Moon Over the Brewery’

STATE COLLEGE — FUSE Productions is gearing up for the new year by producing an unique play to kick off 2020.

Richard Biever, FUSE’s producing artistic director, announced that “Moon Over the Brewery” will shine for two performances at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 10-11 at Singing Onstage, 1108 South Pugh St.

The performance venue is a small studio space, with only 45 seats. Parking is recommended a the Elementary School, across the street from Singing Onstage.

Set in a drab Pennsylvania coal town, Miriam, unmarried and working as a waitress, lives with her precocious daughter, Amanda.

The storyline focuses upon Amanda, who compensates for the lack of a father by creating an imaginary friend named Randolph. In providing mischievous advice and guidance, Randolph assists in driving away her lonely mother’s suitors.

Matters come to head when Amanda’s mother brings home Warren Zimmerman, a rather unprepossessing and somewhat paunchy mailman, who, at first, appears to be a perfect target for Amanda’s (and Randolph’s) caustic remarks and demeaning intelligence tests.

“Moon Over the Brewery,” written by Philadelphia’s Bruce Graham, is directed by Madeline Biever. Biever has appeared in several FUSE Productions, and directs its training studio shows.

The cast of four includes Fiona Mulley (Amanda), James McCready (Randolph), Tyler Sperrazza (Warren) and Leah Mueller (Miriam).

The play has been dubbed as, “A touching, gently humorous study of a precocious teenager’s coming of age, in which fantasy and reality are deftly juxtaposed.”
