MANSFIELD — More than 300 singers from six schools in Pennsylvania will converge in New York City on Sunday to sing at Carnegie Hall, celebrating the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

The Mansfield University Concert Choir of 54 members will be given the opportunity of a lifetime to perform on this renowned stage.

In addition, the Alumni Choir will feature 56 Mansfield alumni who participated in Concert Choir when they were undergraduate students, and four of the high schools that will perform are directed by Mansfield University alumni.

Each group will perform individually for at least 15 minutes and then combine at the end for a grand finale.

The varied program of choral music will feature the works of Stacey Gibbs with six of his spiritual arrangements, and he will be present for the performances.

The finale and title of the concert, “Way Over in Beulah Land,” is the third event Peggy Dettwiler, director of choral activities at Mansfield University, has organized in this prestigious concert hall.
