CTL to present a night of magic, music and meaning with ‘Pippin’

According to a press release, the Community Theatre League is set to present “Pippin,” the iconic Broadway hit filled with dazzling choreography, unforgettable music and a timeless story about finding your place in the world. Blurring the lines between dark, existential storytelling and fun, fantastical spectacle, “Pippin” invites audiences to laugh, question and dream, all in one unforgettable night.

Performances will be held this week at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (“Wicked,” “Godspell”) and original choreography by the legendary Bob Fosse (“Chicago,” “Cabaret”), “Pippin” follows the young son of King Charlemagne as he embarks on a quest for meaning in a chaotic world. Along the way, he encounters love, war, temptation, revolution and the elusive idea of fulfillment.

What makes this production especially compelling is the cast, comprised almost entirely of talented young adults ages 18 to 26, bringing fresh and raw energy to Schwartz’s soaring score and Fosse-inspired dance.

“This show has lived in my heart since I was a teenager,” said Katie Conklin, director and choreographer of ‘Pippin.’ “The cast is small but mighty, an incredibly talented group who have fully embraced the storytelling, the movement, and the emotional depth of the piece. Watching them bring this journey to life has been nothing short of inspiring.”

The cast features Levi Shamblen as the introspective and idealistic Pippin; Olivia Chilson as the enigmatically unsettling Leading Player; Taylor Elliott as the imposing King Charlemagne; Andrew Trueman as the arrogant Lewis; Kendall Kelley as the cunning Fastrada; Nevaeh Williams as the wise and witty Berthe; Kate Richards as the kindhearted Catherine; and Ethan Park as the curious and charming Theo. The ensemble of Players (Naomi Alexander, Cale Blakely, Gabriella Fugon, Anna Gallup, Sydney Harris, Megan Lowe, and Malachi Watson) create the world of the show with versatility and flair.

The Community Theatre League is located at 100 West Third Street. For tickets or more information, visit ctlshows.com/ season-48/#pippin.
