Pilobolus bringing ‘Other Worlds’ to Weis Center
LEWISBURG — The Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University will welcome innovative dance theater company Pilobolus at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26, a press release said.
The company will feature new works from the “Other Worlds Collection,” plus classic works, alongside a piece called “Branches.” This performance is part of the Weis Center’s year-long Trees Series.
The runtime will be one hour and 30 minutes with an intermission, and there will be a pre-performance talk from 6:45-7:15 p.m. in the Weis Center atrium.
“Pilobolus proves its 50-plus years of innovation continues to captivate fans across time and space, embodying the way life changes shape,” said the press release. “Pilobolus, a beacon of innovation in the dance world since 1971, pushes the limits of human physicality to reveal the beauty and power of connected bodies.
“With a fearless and rebellious spirit rooted in its Dartmouth College origins, Pilobolus captivates audiences through a dynamic blend of athleticism, artistry, and imagination,” continued the press release. “Their ever-evolving repertoire, created in collaboration with dancers and thinkers from diverse disciplines, has touched hearts and minds worldwide, leaving a lasting imprint on popular culture with over 120 pieces performed across 65 countries. Pilobolus’s shows engage, inspire, and astonish, leaving viewers with a profound sense of connection and wonder.”
Pilobolus’s history is rich with accolades and collaborations with some of the world’s most influential thinkers and creators. Recognized as one of Dance Heritage Coalition’s “Irreplaceable Dance Treasures,” Pilobolus continues to be at the forefront of innovation in the performing arts — a journey chronicled in Robert Pranzatelli’s 2024 book “Pilobolus: A Story of Dance and Life,” detailing Pilobolus’s rise from a counterculture experiment to a cultural institution.
They have been featured on: “CBS This Morning,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” NBC’s “TODAY Show,” MTV’s “Video Music Awards,” “The Harry Connick Show,” ABC’s “The Chew,” and the CW Network’s “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” as well as on Broadway, at The Oscars, and at the Olympic Games.
Pilobolus’s “Other Worlds Collection” traverses the spaces we inhabit — from the realms within ourselves, society, and the universe — with wit, wisdom, and whimsy.
This collection features collaborations with visionaries who see the world through the lens of theatre, music, and dance, including award-winning playwright and director Aaron Posner, multi-instrumentalist and composer Stuart Bogie, choreographer and former Pilobolus dancer Gaspard Louis, original Pilobolus member Lee Harris, and composer Paul Sullivan.
“Let Pilobolus take you on a journey through the multitudes of the human condition, seamlessly fusing sensuality, humor, and extraordinary physical prowess into a performance that will leave you spellbound,” said the press release.
