New details come to light regarding Jersey Shore shooting

JERSEY SHORE — Before Nigel A. Lee allegedly shot Adam Butler on Vilas Drive on Friday afternoon, the two men used an assortment of drugs randomly beginning on Wednesday, state police said in an affidavit made public on Monday.

Investigators have accused Lee, 38, of Mill Hall, with allegedly shooting Butler “multiple times” outside Mark Baskin’s mobile home at 94 Vilas Drive in Porter Township, just north of the Thomas Street interchange of Route 220, about 1:20 p.m.

The motive for the shooting was unknown.

Police did release Butler’s age or address.

Court records state that Lee, along with another person, identified as Lindsey Straub, arrived at Baskin’s home on Wednesday. It was unclear when Butler arrived the property.

Just before the shooting, Butler and Baskin were attempting to help Lee get into his 2007 Dodge Charger after Lee had locked his keys in the car, Trooper Matthew Miller said in the affidavit.

“Baskin and Butler were standing near the driver’s door using a chisel and spatula attempting to open Lee’s vehicle,” Miller said.

“Lee walked from the driver’s side door to the rear. Unprovoked, Lee fired multiple rounds from a handgun,” Miller said.

“At least two rounds struck Butler and one round nearly (striking) Baskin’s head,” the criminal investigator said in the affidavit.

“Baskin described the one round as ‘buzzing his ear,'” Miller said.

Both the injured Butler and Baskin “retreated to a nearby tree and took cover,” the investigator said.

Lee’s car “was covered with snow, appearing as if it had not been moved in several days,” Miller said.

Lee took off on foot, but both Baskin and Straub, another witness, identified him as the alleged gunman when police arrived.

Following footprints in the snow, police nabbed Lee without incident about 2 p.m. south of Route 220, not far from the crime scene.

While Butler is hospitalized with gunshot wounds, Lee is jailed on no bail on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of an instrument of crime.

Miller’s affidavit stated that the two men, along with Baskin and Straub, “used crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and marijuana randomly” between Wednesday and the day of the shooting.
