Convicted felon faces new charges

Convicted felon Anthony Leroy James Jr. 48, of 1320 Pleasant Hills Road, faces four felony counts of illegal possession of a firearm and one count each of possession of controlled substance (82 grams of marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia after state police recently executed a search warrant at his Eldred Township home.

The warrant was served shortly after Oct. 8 when troopers were called to a woman’s home in the 300 block of Tinsman Avenue to investigate a report of a recovered firearm. The woman told investigators that James had left the weapon, a semi-automatic rifle, at her home back in mid-August after he assaulted her, it was alleged in an affidavit. The woman also “provided multiple pictures of firearms which James took in his home and garage,” police alleged.

Investigators then obtained a search warrant and went to James’ home and garage where they recovered a handgun and two homemade firearms along with an assortment of tools and parts that could “readily be converted to be a firearm,” court records stated. Police also seized marijuana and paraphernalia. Following his arraignment before Solomon, James, who is a convicted burglar and drug dealer dating back to 1995, was arraigned before District Judge William Solomon and remains jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
