Fire devastates home in Avis

AVIS — Local stations were called to the scene of a fire that tore through a house at 500 Prospect Ave., Avis.

The call came in around 11:05 p.m. Saturday night and it took nearly two hours to put out, the flames finally doused between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m.

Avis Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Matt Stover confirmed that there were no injuries that he was made aware of as a result of the fire.

At this time, the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal.

The damage done to the home is visible from the street — a gaping hole can be seen at the side of the building exposing the charred interior and the chimney collapsed to the ground. The area around the home is blocked off with caution tape.

Though the damage looks extensive, Stover said the building shouldn’t be a “total loss” and that some of it may be recoverable.

Local business owner Roger Myers owns the property. His business, Roger’s Lemonade, recently celebrated its 43rd year at the Clinton County Fair.

Myers took to social media to share his appreciation for those who reached out following the fire.

“Thank you for all the love and prayers that you have been sending me,” he said. “There is a God. This is just going to be a big job for him.”

Stations who responded to the fire were Lock Haven Hand-in-Hand, Avis, Dunnstown, Lock Haven Citizens Hose, Flemington Good Will Hose, Lamar Township (Salona), Wayne Township (McElhattan), Woolrich, Jersey Shore EMS and other units from Lycoming County.

Starting at $2.99/week.
