Woman arrested following high-speed pursuit in city

After taking state police on a high-speed pursuit in the city of Williamsport for several blocks during the early-morning hours of March 8, motorist Samiyah Kramer crashed her 2011 Jeep Compass into the home at 1200 Campbell St., jumped out of the vehicle and ran behind the house, it was alleged in an affidavit.

Kramer, 21, of 750 W. Edwin St., apartment 5L, was quickly nabbed, but not before one of the troopers running after her fell, dislocating his right shoulder, it was stated in the court document. Police suspected that Kramer was under the influence since they detected both alcohol and marijuana on her, the affidavit stated. “Her eyes were bloodshot and watery,” a trooper wrote in the document. Kramer said “she ran because she did not have insurance on her vehicle,” police said. She was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport, where she admitted that she had “been drinking at a friend’s house prior to driving and that she did use marijuana earlier in the day,” the affidavit stated.

The pursuit began at West Fourth and Walnut streets where troopers saw Kramer run a red traffic light about 1:50 a..m., police said, adding that the troopers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and siren. However, Kramer ignored them as she turned north onto Campbell Street and traveled at “speeds in excess of 90 mph,” running through flashing red traffic lights and stop signs before she crashed into the home, which sustained in excess of $5,000, but the occupants were not displaced.

Upon her discharge from the hospital, Kramer was arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle on a total of 20 charges, including felony fleeing, felony evading arrest, resisting arrest, DUI, hit-run plus more than a dozen summary offenses. Initially jailed, she has since been released on $15,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
