Fugitive captured after jumping from roof in Williamsport

Even after jumping from the roof of a home in the 1200 block of Cherry Street, Williamsport,

on Thursday afternoon, a 25-year-old fugitive “zig-zagged” his way through some yards in a futile attempt to avoid capture, according to city police. Once detained, the man continued to struggle with officers, one of whom was forced to deploy a taser, police said. The man, whose identity was expected to be released Friday, was initially taken to police headquarters and then to UPMC Williamsport to be evaluated. In photo, the man, seen on stretcher with his back to the camera, is about to be loaded into an ambulance at the police station. The fugitive, wanted by Harrisburg police for felony fleeing, has eluded capture for several months, police said.

An officer, who was well aware that he was wanted by law enforcement, saw the man enter a home on Cherry Street about 2:30 p.m. More than a dozen additional officers responded to the scene and surround the house, prompting the fugitive to go to the roof and jump, police said.
