Habitual shoplifter jailed on yet another charge

When Maria Marie Beaghley walked out of Joe’s Kwik Mart at 101 Bridge St. in Jersey Shore without paying for the $8 worth of merchandise she was caring during the early morning hours of June 28, the 40-year-old city woman already had five shoplifting convictions, according to an affidavit filed by Lycoming Regional police. Beaghley, 40, of 671 Campbell St., Williamsport, was nabbed and taken into custody within the hour in Williamsport after police stopped a Chevrolet Malibu in which she was a passenger, the court document stated. Officers had been told that Beaghley was last seen fleeing the store in a Malibu, police said. Besides the stolen merchandise, which was recovered, Beaghley also had on her a bag of methamphetamine, police added. At the woman’s arraignment hours later before District Judge Denise Dieter, an officer told Dieter that this was actually Beaghley’s seventh shoplifting arrest. The disposition of a sixth case was unknown.Charged with felony shoplifting, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, Beaghley remains jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
