Five charged with shoplifting in separate cases
On her 41st birthday, habitual shoplifter Miria Marie Beaghley, of 671 Campbell St., was caught Saturday at Wegmans, 201 William St., stealing $95 worth of merchandise, city police alleged. She already has six shoplifting convictions, police said. Following her arraignment before District Judge Denise Dieter on a felony charge of shoplifting, she was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail
In another case before Dieter, April May Slack, 38, 1146 W. Fourth Street, has been charged with felony shoplifting and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing a piece of clothing from the Family Dollar Store at 1221 W. Fourth St. about 4 p.m. Sunday, city police said. She was taken into custody about 8:30 p.m. when she returned to the store, police said. This was her third shoplifting offense, Following her arraignment, Slack was released on $10,000 bail.
In another case, David Smith, 62, of 334 Walnut St., has been charged by Munny Township police with felony shoplifting and receiving stolen property after he stole a $1,700 E-bike from Dick’s Sporting Goods, 380 S. Lycoming Mall Road on July 25, it was alleged in an affidavit filed at the office of District Judge Kirsten Gardner. The bike was recovered days later in downtown Williamsport, police said. This was at least Smith’s third shoplifting offense, police said. Arranged before Gardner, Smith has since waived his preliminary hearing and remains jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.
In another case, Ashley Elizabeth Lynch, 38, of 1508 Locust St., has been charged with felony shoplifting for stealing $163 worth of merchandise from the Weis Market, 1916 Lycoming Creek Road, between June 28 and Aug. 3, it was alleged in an affidavit filed by Lycoming Regional police. She has since waived her preliminary hearing before District Judge William Solomon and is free on $5,000 bail.
In a fifth case, Jessica Short, 32, of 632 Maple St., has been charged with misdemeanor shoplifting after she allegedly fled Dollar General, 2032 Lycoming Creek Road, without paying for $64 worth of merchandise July 31, according to Lycoming Regional police. Following her arraignment before Solomon, she was released on $5,000 bail. This was her second shoplifting offense, police said.
