Patient arrested for allegedly punching UPMC Williamsport hospital clerk
Dominique Evans, who turns 33 on Sunday, has been arrested and jailed on charges after he punched a registration clerk in the emergency department at UPMC Williamsport on Tuesday night, hospital police Cpl. Corey Brewer alleged in affidavit.
The officer said the assault was unprovoked. A nurse heard yelling in the hallway and saw Evans allegedly “strike the clerk in the right shoulder with his fist,” it was stated in the court document.
Evans, a resident of the Timberland Apartments at 500 Lycoming St., attempted to bolt, but was stopped by a hospital security guard, Brewer said.
“Look at my finger,” Evans told the clerk as he was being taken to a treatment room.
The clerk followed Evans as he continued to talk with her, the officer said. Evans and his girlfriend, who came with him to the hospital, began arguing “over seating arrangements” in the room, Brewer said.
The girlfriend told Evans she was leaving, and as she was walking out, the clerk attempted to move out of her way, Brewer said. It was at this point, Evans punched the clerk, it was alleged. The clerk was treated in the emergency room for her injuries.
After being medically cleared from the hospital, Evans, who is on probation, was arraigned before District Judge William Solomon on charges of felony aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and harassment, and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.
