Reports of Williamsport shooting unfounded

Williamsport police along with state troopers and officers from the Pennsylvania College of Technology rushed to West Third and Elmira streets about 8:25 p m. Sunday to investigate a possible shooting.

It turned out to be unfounded, police confirmed..

Officers were met with a large boisterous crowd with several people screaming and hollering, but no shooting victim, police said.

Two to three people were briefly detained, but eventually released. They could face summary charges in the coming days, police said

“At this point we don’t even have any evidence of anyone with a firearm,” one officer said. All police officers left the scene in about 30 minutes.
