Sullivan County sheriff resigns
								LAPORTE – Sullivan County Sheriff Jared Houck has submitted a letter of resignation to the Sullivan County Commissions, according to a spokesman with the sheriff’s department.
Elected in November 2023, Houck began serving a four-year term the following January, replacing Robert Montgomery.
The spokesman said Houck’s resignation was his personal choice. His resignation was effective Oct. 22.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Nicholas Wingate will now serve as acting sheriff.
The letter of resignation is on Tuesday’s agenda for the Sullivan County Commission meeting.
Also on the agenda is acknowledging the tentative hiring of Houck as a deputy sheriff effective Wednesday Nov.5.
