Williamsport firefighters clear smoke from Berkshire apartment
City firefighters rushed to the four-story Berkshire Apartment Building at 801 W. Fourth St. when a smoldering flower pot used to burn incense activated a smoke detector about 1:40 a.m. Thursday, according to fire officials. The flower pot was in a first-floor apartment and created a heavy smoke condition. Exhaust fans were used to clear smoke from the building.
The incident was quickly brought under control, but a tenant in an upstairs apartment suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated either at the scene or at UPMC Williamsport, officials said.
There was no fire damage to the building, officials added.
