Truck fire forces temporary township road closure

A section of Grimesville Road was closed Monday afternoon for two hours after a pickup truck caught fire in the 300 block, according to Old Lycoming Township fire officials and Lycoming Regional police.

The driver, whose identity was not released, pulled off the road after experiencing some mechanical difficulties, police said. Minutes later, fire erupted in the engine compartment and quickly spread to the passenger compartment about 1:15 p.m., police said.

City and township firefighters got water on the fire as soon as they arrived on the scene, but it took a while for them to extinguish the fire completely because of burning gasoline leaking out of the truck’s gas tank, fire officials said. The vehicle was a total loss.

There were no injuries.
