Two city teens charged as adults for allegedly robbing confidential informant during gun sale

Two 16-year-old Williamsport Area High School students have been locked up on charges of robbing a confidential informant while offering to sell him a handgun, it was alleged in a court document.

At their arraignment Tuesday night before District Judge Gary Whiteman, Jared Wright, of 335 Mifflin Place, and Majestic Joyner, of 675 Sixth Ave., apartment 1, were both denided bail and sent to the Lycoming County Prison.

The two juveniles will be tried as adults on felony and misdemeanor charges filed by a detective with the county’s District Attoney’s Office.

The robbery occurred in the informant’s car near Second Avenue and High Street in the city just hours before the arraignment, it was stated in an affidavit.

While Joyner got in the back seat, “Wright entered the front passenger seat,” thereby sitting next to the informant.

The informant handed Wright $400, the document stated. “Wright pulled a handgun from his right side and pointed it at the informant, stating ‘You’re burnt,'” according to the affidavit. Both teenagers then got out of the car and took off.

The informant told a detective watching the transaction that he had just been robbed. A team of detectives stopped Wright and Joyner at Campbell and Louisa streets. The juveniles fled on foot, but were nabbed in the 800 block of Rural Avenue following a brief pursuit, investigators said.

Both teens were carrying handguns when they were arrested, investigators said.

Wright and Joyner face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery as well as carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a firearm with the serial number altered or obliterated, possession of a firearm by a minor and simple assault. Wright has also been charged with one count of robbery.
