Vans catch fire in Clinton Township

PHOTO PROVIDED Clinton Township Volunteer firefighters were dispatched to the Amazon Distribution Center on Saegers Station Road near Tebbs Road late Friday night when several parked vans, belonging to a subcontractor, caught fire, according to township Fire Chief Todd Winder. “A neighbor called 911 upon seeing two vans on fire. When I arrived, the fire had engulfed a third van,” he said. When the first fire trucks pulled up, a fourth van was on fire, Winder said. The vehicles, parked about three feet apart, were in a rows of dozens of such vans. “It took about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. Four vans were destroyed while two others sustained fire damage. It’s unknown if the two will be saved,” Winder said, adding a state police fire marshal will be at the scene this morning as the cause of the fire remains under investigation. At no point did the fire threaten the building, Winder said.
