Variety of charges lodged in Lycoming County district courts
Two men faces charges in separate domestic disturbances
Conor James Doyle, 21, of 409 High St., Jersey Shore, has been locked up on charges of allegedly assaulting his girlfriend while she was holding their 1-year-old child during a domestic disturbance in the 1100 block of Allegheny Street in the borough about 3 a m. Wednesday, according to Lycoming Regional police.
While in an intoxicated condition, Doyle began slapping the woman’s face and then pushed her onto a bed only to pull her off the bed by her hair, police alleged. Following his arraignment before District Judge Kirsten Gardner on a felony charge of endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and harassment, Doyle was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.
In another domestic, Tafari Major, 25, who is homeless, has been locked up on charges after he forced his way into a woman’s apartment in the 500 block of Memorial Avenue and then “grabbed her and struck her in the face and head several times” about 11:45 a.m. on Jan. 29, city police alleged. Major also “grabbed her by the throat, scratching the left side of her neck,” it was,alleged in an affidavit.
When officers started arriving on the scene, Major took off running, but was soon nabbed, police said. Arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle on charges of felony trespassing, simple assault, evading arrest and harassment, Major remains jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.
Convicted felon charged with with new set of felonies
After he was forced to move out of his city home at 1151 Market St. because his wife had filed a protection from abuse order against him, convicted felon Malik Poleto left behind a box inside the house, according to an affidavit filed by a detective with thr county’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit.
On Jan. 30, his wife alerted law enforcement after she discovered the box hidden in a closet and found two rifles and a shotgun inside the box, the detective said. The woman suspected Poleto kept guns in the house and “she thought he was not allowed to possess them,,” it was stated in an affidavit.
Poleto was taken into custody later that day and arraigned before Biichle on three felony counts of convicted felon not to possess a firearm. He remains jailed in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Milton man charged with theft
After using his credit card to buy $98 worth of merchandise at Walmart in Montoursville on Aug. 8, Michael Scott Royer contacted his credit card company and falsely claimed that someone had used the card fraudulently to make the very purchase he had just made, borough police alleged in an affidavit.
Royer’s bogus claim caused the charge to go back to the department store, police said.
Royer, 45, Milton, is suspected of allegedly committing the same scam at other Walmarts in the region, according to boriugh police, who have charged him with theft by deception and receiving stolen property. He has since waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Whiteman and is free $5,000 bail.
Loyalsock Township man charged with hit-and-run
Motorist John A. Blaschak, 75, of 2650 Haas Lane, has been charged with accidents involving damage to attended vehicle (hit-run) after fleeing the scene of a crash in which his GMC Yukon and Mazda collided at Washington Boulevard and Shiffler Avenue in Loyalsock Township on Jan. 7, state police alleged. He has since waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge William Solomon and is free on 5,000 bail.
Northumberland County man charged with stalking
Although the woman had a protection from abuse oder filed again him, Charles D. Pittenger is alleged to have stalked and harassed her at various locations – including her home and place of employment – between Jan 10 and Jan. 13, according to state police. Court records stated the alleged incidents occurred in Clinton Township. Pittenger, 54, of Watsontown, has been arraigned before Gardner on charges of skaking and harassment, and remains locked up in lieu $25,000 bail. At a preliminary hearing last week, he was held for court on both charges.
City woman faces felony shoplifting offense
Lori A. Harman, 55, of 1041 Isabella St., has been charged with felony shoplifting after she stole an estimated $25 worth of merchandise from Sheetz at 45 Muncy Creek Blvd. in Muncy Creek Township on Jan. 22, state police alleged. This is at least her fourth shoplifting arrest, police said. Following her arraignment before Gardner, Harman was released on $15,000 bail.
