Homeless man jailed following downtown stabbing
Shortly after allegedly stabbing another man in the forehead with a knife in the 400 block of Hepburn Street about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Kenneth Scott Outlaw, 36, who is homeless, was nabbed a few blocks west of the attack, city police said. It was alleged that Outlaw stabbed Kalif Burks during an argument at 477 Hepburn St., police said, adding that the assault was captured on surveillance video which showed Burks backing away from Outlaw, but Outlaw then advancing towards him and stabbing him.
Burks was bleeding from the left side of the head when police arrived on the scene, it was stated in an affidavit. He was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport, where he was being treated Tuesday night for his injuries.
When Outlaw was taken into custody near Memorial Avenue and Maple Street, he had in his possession the knife that was used in the stabbing, police said. Following his arraignment before District Judge Aaron Biichle on charges of aggravated and simple assault as well as possession of an instrument of crime, Outlaw was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $125,000 bail.
Montgomery man allegedly threatened to slash woman’s throat
During an argument with a woman in his home on Feb. 12, Donald Ellis Coles, 51, of 56 High St. in Montgomery, threatened to slash her throat, state police alleged in an affidavit filed at the office of District Judge Kirsten Gardner. Following his arraignment on charges of terroristic threats and harassment, Coles was briefly incarcerated and then released on $10,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for late next month.
Bucks County man faces misdemeanor firearm charge
A misdemeanor charge of illegal transfer or sale of a firearm has been lodged against Jay Thomas Saxton, 28, of Morrisville, after he allegedly sold a handgun to another man without using a federal firearm license dealer, according to state police.
The Bucks County man admitted to investigators that he sold it along with a waistband holster and a single 10-round magazine in Jan. 2023 for $250, it was stated in an affidavit. Saxton said he did it “to help his parents financially,” according to the court document.
The sale took place on South Lycoming Mall Road in Muncy Township, police said, adding that Saxton initially purchased the handgun at a firearms business in Lycoming County, Saxton has waived his preliminary hearing before Gardner and is free on $5,000 bail.
Three months after Saxton sold the handgun, the firearm somehow ended up in the hands of Hunter Douglass Shaheen, who shot at a trooper, wounding him in the leg, during an exchange of gunfire near Watsontown on April 12, 2023. Shaheen, 21, pled guilty almost a year ago to assault-related charges and is serving a lengthy state prison sentence. The man who purchased the gun from Saxton was not involved in the shooting, police said. Court documents did not say how Shaheen obtained the gun..
Attempted burglary leads to charges against Muncy resident
Kevin Curtis Heeman, 20, of Muncy, has been arrested on charges of felony attempted burglary, and criminal mischief for breaking a window at Smokers Square at 16 S. Main St. on March 12. Muncy police alleged. Police posted on their social media page a photo image from surveillance video that showed the suspect. Once it was posted, police received a tip that the man in the picture was Heeman. When taken into custody for questioning, Heeman admitted to the vandalism in an attempt to steal merchandise from the business, but after using a rock to smash the window, he told investigators that he had “second thoughts” and decided against entering the store, it was stated in an affidavit.
Following his arraignment before Gardner, Heeman was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Elderly man faces charges after incident at care facility
Ralph Lewis Blodgett, 75, a resident at an assisted living facility in Loyalsock Township, has been arrested on misdemeanor charges of indecent assault and indecent exposure for having inappropriate contact with another resident at the facility earlier this month, state police alleged in an affidavit. Following his arraignment Sunday before Gardner, Blodgett was released on $50,000 bail.
