“After years of rolling through the Susquehanna Valley in their signature converted school bus, the team behind Chubbs Barbecue is ready to trade tires for a permanent foundation,” a news release from the business said. “The local favorite has officially announced its transition from a mobile food truck to a brick-and-mortar smokehouse located at 520 Market Street in the heart of downtown Lewisburg.”
Founded in 2022 by two best friends, Daniel Horst and Jason Buss, Chubbs Barbecue quickly became a staple of the local food scene, amassing a loyal following, according to the news release.
“Known for their authentic, Texas-style Southern barbecue, the duo’s commitment to low and slow traditions allowed the business to outgrow the confines of their mobile kitchen in just three short years,” the news release said.
“Watching this grow from a school bus into a full-scale restaurant has been an incredible ride,” said the owners, according to the news release. “The Lewisburg community has supported us since day one, and we are thrilled to finally offer them a permanent seat at our table.”
A new chapter for regional barbecue
The move to a physical location marks a major upgrade for both the pitmasters and their patrons. Moving beyond the truck allows for a larger menu, more consistent hours, and the ability to serve the downtown lunch and dinner crowds. The new storefront joins the vibrant collection of shops and eateries that define the historic Lewisburg district.
Moving forward, the smokehouse will be open for regular business Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., providing a new go-to destination for the downtown lunch and dinner crowds. For specific soft-opening hours and daily specials, fans are encouraged to monitor the Chubbs Barbecue Facebook page.
