Outdoor community calendar for week of Oct. 7
AUDUBON EVENT:
WILLIAMSPORT WATER AUTHORITY, MOSQUITO VALLEY BIRD WALK
WHERE: 1600 mosquito Valley Road, Duboistown
WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 11 at 8 a.m.
NOTES: Join us for a bird walk through forested trails and brushy habitat. We will look and listen for fall bird species on a mostly flat and easy walk, suitable for all levels of bird enthusiasts.
ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL
WHERE: Little Pine State Park
WHEN: Sunday, Oct. 12 from noon to 4 p.m.
NOTES: This is an outdoor festival that focuses on the natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities in northcentral Pennsylvania. Displays and scheduled programs by state and county conservation agencies, local conservation organizations and businesses related to the outdoors will be at the Fall Festival.
There will also be live animals, crafts, demonstrations and more. The festival may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.
This will happen in the parking lot of the main day use area. Follow Little Pine State Park signs at the intersection of SR 4001 and PA Route 44 at Waterville.
AUDUBON EVENT:
LIME BLUFF RECREATION
AREA BIRDWALK
WHERE: 461 Elm Drive, Hughesville
WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 18 at 8:30 a.m.
NOTES: At Lycoming Audubon’s suggestion, the East Lycoming Recreation Authority decided to leave large areas of Lime Bluff unmowed to provide habitat for birds. In addition to fields that attract raptors like red-tailed hawks and American kestrels, there is plenty of edge habitat favored by a variety of songbirds.
This is an easy walk along gravel and mowed paths. Please join us.

NATURAL AREA
WHERE: Robert Porter Allen natural Area (721 E. Mountain Ave., South Williamsport)
WHEN: Sunday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
NOTES: Lycoming Audubon has several volunteer workdays planned for Robert Allen Natural Area. This fall we are focusing on removing invasive plants and planting native trees and shrubs.
Please bring your enthusiasm, work boots and work clothes. Light refreshments will be served. e will plant shrubs at the entrance to RPANA.
AUDUBON EVENT:
CHAPTER MEETING
WHERE: Taber Museum (858 W. Fourth Street, Williamsport)
WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
NOTES: Join the Lycoming Audubon Society for an evening featuring Ron Beach’s artork “Birds in Art.” His passion for the outdoors and 20 years of service with the Pennsylvania Game Commission have more than a little influence on the subject matter he paints, capturing the attention of art collectors throughout the United States.
Many of his paintings have been published as limited-edition art prints, a number of which are sold out and on the secondary market.
His art has graced the covers of magazines, calendars and greeting cards. He was twice selected Arts of the Year by Ducks Unlimited and his art was selected as a sponsor print for the Ruffed Grouse Society.
Beach’s work has raised thousands of dollars for many conservation efforts and non-profit organizations. His paintings are known for thoughtful composition, richly detailed landscapes and accurately portrayed wildlife.
AUDUBON EVENT:
SUSQUEHANNA RIVER WALK BIRDWALK
WHERE: 720 Matthews Blvd., South Williamsport
WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 25 at 9 a.m.
NOTES: We will again sojourn to our lovely river walk this fall. Meet us near the South Williamsport Recycling Center at the top of the dike overlooking the dam. We hope to spot waterfowl and enjoy species of raptors — bald eagles, peregrine falcons and red-tailed hawks.
There are frequent sightings of these birds along the brushy riverbank.
