United Way accepting requests for homelessness assistance funding

Lycoming County receives an annual allocation of Homeless Assistance Program (HAP) funds through a Lycoming County Human Service Block Grant (HSBG). According to a news release, HAP is a county-directed program that offers a variety of supportive services to individuals and families experiencing or at risk for homelessness and who can demonstrate that, with HAP intervention, they will be able to meet their basic housing needs in the near term. Mosquitos test positive for West Nile in Centre County township

BELLEFONTE -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Vector Management has reported to the Centre County Planning and Community Development Office that one mosquito sample collected recently in Ferguson Township, has tested positive for the West Nile Virus. U.S. Senator John Fetterman, D-Braddock, and U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Butler, sent a letter to Postmaster General David Steiner urging the U.S. Postal Service to reopen the South Erie Post Office. “Erie residents who do not drive struggle to access alternative post offices, while others report long waits at retail counters to retrieve their rerouted mail. Muncy Borough Council deals with storm water issues

Muncy Borough Council at its August meeting approved a $5,010 payment for repair of a section of its storm sewer system. The repair work represents just a section of the borough’s storm sewer network requiring upgrades, according to borough officials. “This entire system is failing, and it needs to be cleaned out,” Councilman Ed Fiegles said. The recent repairs focused on problems in the storm system around Journey Bank at Main and New streets after the discovery of a hole in either the pavement or ground.
