4 charged with theft in separate cases in Lycoming County district courts

On May 3, Carl Hiller III brought his 2016 Lincoln MKZ to Aamco Transmission, 2351 E. Third St., to have some work done, and by the end of the month, he gave the business permission to do $5,789 worth of repairs on the car, according to a state police affidavit. After the repairs were made, however, Hiller, 45, of 408 Anthony St., picked up the car sometime on June 13 and drove away without paying the bill, police alleged. A felony charge of theft of services was filed two weeks later after Hiller had made no arrangements to pay the bill, police said. He has waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Whiteman and is free on $5,000 bail.

In another case, Gerome Montez Shaw, 43, of 355 St. David’s Road, has been charged with theft after he failed to return a woman’s wallet after she accidentally dropped it and left it behind in the parking lot at Sheetz, 330 Westminster Drive, on March 25, it was alleged in a state police affidavit. Store surveillance showed Shaw picking up the wallet, walking into the store and then exiting before driving away, police said, adding he allegedly failed to turn in the wallet to staff. The victim told police there was $400 in the wallet. When questioned, Shaw said he “found” the wallet, but no cash in it, police said, adding that Shaw claimed he dropped the wallet in a nearby mailbox. Following a preliminary hearing before Whiteman, Shaw was held for court on the misdemeanor charge and released on $5,000 bail.

In another case, Miranda A. Confer, 30, of Northumberland, has been charged with felony theft after she stole Kayla Siegfried’s 2011 Chevrolet Impala from 45 Back St. in Upper Fairfield Township on Sept. 21, state police said. A bench warrant was expected to be filed after she failed to appear for a preliminary hearing before Whiteman.

In another case, Timothy Maddox, 34, of 832 W. Third St., has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property for stealing about $20 in cash and medication from a Frederick Terry’s 2018 Audi Q5 in the 1100 block of West Fourth Street on May 16, city police alleged in an affidavit. Maddox has since waived his preliminary hearing and remains jailed in lieu of bail.
