Inmate faces new charge for allegedly shooting dog

Moments before he shot Shawn Shipton multiple times on Wither Hollow Road in Woodward Township on the night of Nov. 8, Tyler Scott Whyte shot and killed a friend’s dog that was under his care, state police alleged in court documents.

The dog was owned by Shawn Reid, who asked Whyte, who turned 29 last week, to care for the animal while Reid was in the process of moving, police said.

Whyte, whose last known address was 85 Wither Hollow Road, just off Daughters Run Road, has now been charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal, a felony, police said. Following his recent arraignment before District Judge Gary Whiteman, Whyte was recommitted to the county prison in lieu of additional $15,000 bail. He has been incarcerated on no bail since his arrest on the night of allegedly shooting Shipton, who is recovering from his wounds. Whyte faces further court action on charges of attempted homicide and related offenses in the initial case.

Starting at $2.99/week.
