Several arraigned before Lycoming County district judges on charges including theft, assault
Intoxicated Baltimore man allegedly spat on state troopers
Matthew Kane Green, an intoxicated man taken into state police custody in the 2400 block of Lycoming Creek Road in Loyalsock Township late at night on Jan. 15, became so combative and unruly that a paramedic had to inject a sedative while troopers restrained him, according to state police. It all started on Lycoming Creek Road where the 19-year-old Baltimore, Maryland man was handcuffed and placed in the back of a cruiser, police said.
Green suddenly began “thrashing uncontrollably” when a trooper attempted to secure Green’s seat belt, it was alleged in an affidavit. At one point Green spat in a trooper’s face, police said. Shortly after arriving at the Montoursville barracks and being placed in a holding cell, Green “began banging his head against a rigid wall,” police said, adding that Green continued to do this until he knocked himself out. Troopers immediately came to his aid and also called for an ambulance, the court document stated. Due to his self-inflicted head injuries and the degree of his intoxication, Green had to be taken to UPMC Williamsport by ambulance. Once he regained consciousness, he put up a struggle and spat on two troopers, it was alleged in the affidavit.
After he was injected with the medication, Green was taken to the hospital, treated by medical staff and released in the custody of the police. He was then arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle on two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment plus one count each of institutional vandalism and underage drinking. Green remained locked up in the Lycoming County Prison on Wednesday night in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Homeless man charged with resisting arrest
After his vehicle had been towed to Cochran Automotive at 512 W. Third St. on Jan. 15, David Weidler called the business demanding possession of the car, according to a city police affidavit. “He started yelling and stated he was going to break into (Cochran’s) tow lot,” the court document stated. Weidler, 34, who is homeless, came to the business and spoke with employees in person before leaving, police said. The business called police and gave a description of Weidler, who was spotted in the 500 block of West Fourth Street. When officers ordered him twice to stop, he refused, police alleged. As officers were attempting to detain him, Weidler resisted and had to be taken to the ground, police said. Following his arraignment before Biichle on charges of resisting arrest, evading arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, Weidler was initially jailed in the county prison, but has since been released on $5,000 bail.
