Williamsport woman allegedly assaulted police officer

After striking a parked vehicle in the 2700 block of West Fourth Street with her Ford Fusion about 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 1, Yvonne Fredin, 58, just kept on going and drove to her nearby home at 2828 Dove St., city police alleged in an affidavit. The victim in the case followed Fredin to her house, where police took her into custody, but not before she kicked a female officer, “knocking her backwards and causing an injury,” it was alleged in the court document. Police believed Fredin was impaired because she “failed to maintain (her) balance and her speech was significantly slurred,” the affidavit stated. “She appeared very lethargic and struggled to answer basic questions and follow directions.

For this reason, she was unable to perform field sobriety tests,” police said in the court document. Fredin admitted her involvement in the hit-run crash and also admitted she consumed “a couple drinks” at a local bar, police said. “It took multiple officers to gain control of her” after she allegedly assaulted the one officer. There was no mention in the criminal complaint about whether she submitted a blood sample or refused. Arraigned hours later before District Judge Christian Frey on felony aggravated assault, DUI and accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle (hit-run), Fredin, who has since waived her preliminary hearing, was released on $10,000 bail.
