A domestic violence incident allegedly left a female victim bruised and fearing for her life, she told police when they arrived on the scene in the 700 block of Route 15 in Armstrong Township on Jan. 24, 2025.

The incident began when Austin Travis Engel, 30, of 776 Route 15, South Williamsport, punched the windshield of the alleged victim’s car, breaking it, after which he placed her into a headlock, restricting her air intake, the alleged victim told police.

As an individual attempted to intervene, the alleged victim retreated to a bedroom, however, Engel broke the door down, dragged her off the bed, grabbed her by the throat and shoved her into a nightstand, authorities allege.

Bruising and an abrasion was observed on the right side of her lower back, police said in court documents.

Engel was arraigned on charges of strangulation, simple assault, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and harassment before District Judge Christian Frey and remanded to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
