Forklift destroyed by fire in Muncy Township energy company warehouse
The combination of a working fire alarm and a sprinkler system saved the day for TechnipFMC, an energy company in Muncy Township, where this forklift caught fire in the shop area of the large building about 10:50 p.m. Thursday, according to township Fire Chief Scott Oldweiler.
Smoke and heat from the fire activated the alarm system, bringing volunteer firefighters immediately to the scene, as well as two sprinkler heads, which dumped water on the flames, Oldweiler said.
Although the building at 320 Marcellus Drive, just off John Brady Drive, was filled with dense smoke, “the fire itself was extinguished by the sprinklers when we arrived on the scene,” Oldweiler said.
Exhaust fans were used to clear smoke from the structure.
While the forklift was destroyed, the company was able to resume operations on Friday, Oldweiler said, adding that had it not been for the fire alarm and sprinklers, the outcome could have been catastrophic for the business.
Besides Muncy Township, firefighters from Montoursville, Muncy Area, Hughesville and Picture Rocks responded on the call.
