Hepburn Township man recovering after crash into Lycoming Creek

A Hepburn Township man was recovering from injuries he suffered early Friday morning when his pickup truck plunged down a rocky embankment into Lycoming Creek, according to Lycoming Regional police.

Matthew Miller, 33, was being treated at UPMC Williamsport following the crash that occurred about 2:45 a.m., just south of Route 973 East, at the Lycoming-Hepburn Township line.

Miller managed to get out of the truck on his own and make it to the south side of the creek, where he was pulled out of the water by Lycoming Regional police officers and a Hepburn Township firefighter.

Officers had been dispatched to the area to investigate a report of a man screaming along the creek.

Traveling north, Miller went off Lycoming Creek Road and struck a guardrail before going airborne about 30 yards and landing in the middle of the creek. It was estimated that Miller traveled 70 to 100 yards from the time he lost control of the truck to where he landed.

Since the vehicle did not pose any immediate danger to anyone, it was decided to wait until daylight to remove it from the creek.

Bressler’s Towing arrived at the crash scene about 9:30 a.m. and worked for about an hour to recover the vehicle.

With a boat, divers from Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Company entered the water and attached necessary hooks and other equipment to the truck so that it could be safely lifted out of the water.

Starting at $2.99/week.
