Williamsport man faces more than a dozen felonies

After Joseph Clay Lyles allegedly sold various amounts of cocaine, ranging from seven to 42 grams, from his city home at 1117 Franklin St. on seven occasions between late November and Feb. 20, members of the state police vice narcotics unit — armed with a search warrant — raided his house the next morning and seized an estimated 1.2 pounds of cocaine, according to an affidavit.

Due to a protection from abuse order that was filed against him last year in effect until late last month, Lyles, 40 was ordered to surrender all firearms, the document stated. On March 11, 2024, he signed a sworn statement that all firearms had been turned over, investigators said. However, on the morning of the raid, in addition to the cocaine, troopers seized four rifles and a handgun from the house, the affidavit stated.

Lyles has been arraigned before District Judge William Solomon on seven felony counts each of delivery of a controlled of a controlled substance and illegal use of a communication device, two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, five counts of failure to relinquish firearms when ordered to do so by court and one count of making unsworn falsification to authorities.

Initially jailed, Lyles waived his preliminary hearing Thursday before District Judge Aaron Biichle and was released on $125,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
