Williamsport man charged with child endangerment after firing gun in residence

A Williamsport man has been charged with child endangerment after he allegedly fired a gun into the ceiling of his residence while a preschool-aged child was upstairs of the residence.

City police were called to the residence just before 2 p.m. Monday by a third party, who reported hearing at least one gunshot from within, an affidavit.

Upon arrival, an alleged victim stated that she was engaged in a verbal altercation with John Joseph Holohan, 65, of 809 Poplar St., who was expressing thoughts of self harm, court documents said.

As the argument ensued, Holohan allegedly retrieved a .357 revolver and fired a single shot into the ceiling. At the time of the discharge, a 4-year-old child was in an upstairs bedroom, adjacent to where the shot was fired, authorities allege in court documents.

Police viewed a hole in the ceiling believed to have been caused by the incident, as well as a spent round in the chamber of the firearm.

Holohan was arraigned on the child endangerment charge, as well as two counts of simple assault and one count of recklessly endangering another person by District Judge Christian Frey, who denied bail.

Holohan is currently locked up at the Lycoming County Prison.

Starting at $2.99/week.
