Dunkin’ asked to take corrective action on the Golden Strip

It might be easier soon to get a coffee and donut at a popular eatery on the Golden Strip.
A longstanding backup of traffic on lanes leading to Dunkin’, 1900 E. Third St., may finally have a solution and resolution.
Loyalsock Township supervisors were made aware this week by a letter from the state Department of Transportation the department is requiring the owner of the restaurant to take corrective action.
“They are going to have to do a redesign of their drive-through,” said Bill Burdett, township manager.
Restaurant personnel were not immediately able to be contacted for comment.
It’s been a traffic jam that became worse with necessity for motorists to order at drive-up lanes in the COVID-19 pandemic.
While PennDOT cannot discuss details of highway occupancy permits until they are approved, the department is aware of the traffic situation on East Third Street.
“We are working with the property owner to ensure the driveway is compliant with regulations,” said Maggie Baker, a PennDOT spokeswoman.
“It is the property owner’s responsibility to propose solutions of which the department will review,” Baker said Wednesday after speaking with the department traffic engineer.
Additional traffic volume is expected with the grand opening soon of a Hobby Lobby, at the former K-Mart plaza, and two restaurants — a Popeyes and Texas Roadhouse.
The Little League World Series is back on, albeit an American one without international teams — but the hotels on the Golden Strip also will see visitors.
