The fire and rescue personnel with Susquehanna Mutual Aid Regional Team, or SMART, to bolster dwindling manpower of the South Williamsport Volunteer Fire Department with Loyalsock Township and its department, will be on duty as of Aug. 1.
For citizens of South Williamsport, it is the launch of a five-year cooperative agreement with Loyalsock Township labeled it as revolutionary and one that could incorporate future municipal partners to provide fire and rescue services for their communities.
The starting date was announced for South Williamsport Borough Council.
Likewise, South Williamsport Borough Manager Steven W. Cappelli said he asked Little League International to cover two weeks of police coverage or just under an expected $13,000. That includes straight time and overtime needs whether police are assigned to the Little League complex or not, he said.
First Ward Fire Station will get a $62,000 generator. The administration recommended providing a grant to South Williamsport Fire Department to acquire and install the generator at a cost not to exceed $62,000 to be paid with borough American Rescue Plan monies and the department procure three quotes and take the lowest in compliance with law.
