Williamsport city police are now wearing body cameras

PHOTO PROVIDED Williamsport Bureau of Police officers are now wearing body cameras. City Council will vote this week on a program to partner mental health professionals from Redka Behavioral Services with Williamsport officers on certain emergency calls.

The Williamsport Bureau of Police is now recording officer interactions with body cameras in place effective earlier this week.

City Chief of Police Justin Snyder informed Williamsport City Council that the body camera system was activated as of Wednesday.

Patrol officers began to use what’s known as WatchGuard body-worn cameras in their day-to-day operations and will continue to do so from now on.

The department has used WatchGuard mobile in-car video recording systems for well over a decade, and the implementation of the new body cameras is an additional way to integrate leading-edge technology into criminal justice operations, improve officer safety, enhance public safety and provide high-quality police services with transparency, city officials said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
