Area hosting several Veterans Day events

The Montoursville Cemetery Association will host a ceremony to honor veterans on Friday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m.
Jersey Shore, Williamsport and Lock Haven will also hold events to observe Veterans Day.
The event, one day shy of Veterans Day, will feature guest speakers, including state Rep. Jamie Flick, R-South Williamsport, and a representative of the Garrett Cochran Post 1.
Alivia Tagliaferri, District Office Manager for Flick, has been instrumental in gathering stories of service from area veterans to send to the Library of Congress as a means of preserving their stories for future generations.
Reverend Bob Rice, of the Muncy Baptist Church, will offer words of inspiration, and Jenilee Kukuchka will lead students from Lyter Elementary school in patriotic musical selections.
Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be provided by the American Legion Post 104 beginning at noon.
Also on Nov. 10, the Lycoming College Circle K club will host a Veterans Day dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. to honor local veterans. To sign up for the dinner, which will be in the Pennington Lounge of the college’s Academic Center, visit https://forms.office.com/r/sHGz6e43at
The 20th annual Veterans Day Prayer for America Service will be held at 7 p.m., Nov. 11, with Fair Play Brass playing at 6:30 p.m. at Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St.
“As usual it’s being led by pastors of the Jersey Shore Area Ministerium, and will feature the Jersey Shore Honor Guard, Scriptures, prayers, patriotic hymns, recognition of the fallen, interpreted folding of the flag and special music by the Fair Play Brass, the Presbyterian Choir and others, with free refreshments following,” a news release from the ministerium said. “Join us as we say ‘thank you’ to God for our veterans, our freedom, and our country, and ask God to bless those serving now, our leaders, and our country and world.”
The speaker this year is PA Army National Guard Chaplain and Bosnia and Iraq veteran Rev. Max Furman, who will speak on the topic of “Looking into the Veteran’s Eyes.”
The Lock Haven Sons of Italy, 1 N. Henderson St., Lock Haven, will host a Veterans Day dance with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 11. There will be light refreshments, door prizes and music donated by Private Stock Trio. Tickets are available by calling or texting 570-295-9330. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Heroes and Horses who provide Equine Assisted Programs free to veterans and active duty military.
