More than $450,000 has been awarded to an up-and-coming community center in Sullivan County.
U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Scranton, shepherded Loyalsock Foundation’s FY24 Community Project Funding request for The Landing — a part of the Summit Center for Wellness, a wellness and community space, into budget legislation signed by President Joe Biden in early March, according to a news release from the foundation.
The project was included as one of 142 recommended projects from across Pennsylvania receiving a total of $172.4 million for community revitalization, infrastructure construction and restoration and health facility expansion.
“When I last visited the Summit Center for Wellness, I said it would be a game-changer for Sullivan County by providing its residents access to health and wellness resources and ample recreational activities,” said Casey, according to the news release. “That’s the vision Loyalsock Foundation has for this community and I gladly join them in the pursuit of that vision with $457,000 of federal funding as they begin building what will become a point of pride for this community and boon for the region’s economy.”
The Landing will be a public community space designated for wellness, fitness and educational programming, the news release said.
“This project will provide immediate access to wellness opportunities for the Sullivan County community and surrounding areas as Loyalsock Foundation continues its quest to secure funding for the main recreation facility at The Summit: Center for Wellness,” the news release said. “The Landing is part of Loyalsock Foundation’s outdoor recreation plan, which also includes an outdoor amphitheater and second loop trail. These components are in the design stage. Construction on The Landing will begin in 2025. Loyalsock Foundation is currently seeking funding for an ADA accessible pathway, nature overlooks, and observation deck to complement The Landing and showcase Sullivan County’s natural landscape.”
