Muncy administrators add some quips, Inspirational reminders to graduates
Muncy High school Principal Timothy Welliver thanked the graduating Class of 2025 for fulfilling his Tic Tac addiction, saying there were enough to get him through the first week of school.
Congratulations was afforded as well as good luck as the class begins its journey beyond the hallowed halls of the high school.
Dr. Craig Skaluba, superintendent, said several images of this class that will stay with him included the student section at the first home bocce match who helped cheer the team onto victory, but vigorous arm motions urged the ball closer and closer to the mark during the silent parts of the break. He even recalled the most nerve racking and best high school football game I’ve ever seen in our last minute 47 to 46 win over Lackawanna Trail.
“Whether academic or athletic performances, or extracurricular accomplishments of the class members were recognized at Lyco CTC Awards and senior ceremonies, your first alumni banquet, baccalaureate, senior honors assembly, senior class night and senior picnic.
These ceremonies highlight both the community you developed together as a class and the impact of the Muncy community on your memories, experiences and future endeavors,” Skaluba said.
“Members of the Class of 2025 led our school in fundraising efforts, service projects, school spirit activities and kindness challenges designed to support our clubs and our community, including the Youth Development Task Force, the Muncy Community Closet and the Prayer Walk prior to the start of school.
“They earned back-to-back first place finishes at the Battle of the Books competition and competed at this year’s Envirothon where one team finished second overall and first in the forestry event.
Expected to be the first senior class to experience a flexible instructional day and instead experienced no early dismissals, one snow day and seven two hour delays.
Went “Back to the Future” to get everyone on their feet at our football games with great pre-game, in-game and halftime performances
Members helped develop and promote our Portrait of a Graduate. They designed, edited, produced and broadcast our high school’s first season of TRIBE-TV, reshaped Indianfest. And organized a pep rally where students earned chances to pie teachers in the face.
Orchestrated a full school assembly to listen to guest speaker David Flood’s message to ensure every person in the school feels they always have someone in their corner. The class qualified to advance to the state Future Business Leaders of America competition, 16 participated in states where four earned top 10 placements, including two who helped their team finish first in the state with their community service project.
In golf, a member of the class was named Mid-Penn League MVP. Members of the class in football won four league championships, played in four district championship games, bringing home gold this year all while making school history by reaching our first ever football final four.
Other football, girls soccer and field hockey, indoor bocce, softball, girls basketball individual and team highlights were listed.
For those heading to college, the military or workforce, Skaluba asked all graduates to keep the school updated on their progress.
“Remember the cast of our Spring Musical Big Fish inspired you to be the hero of your story by living each day to the fullest and making meaningful memories along the way, and believing in yourself by being persistent and passionate in the pursuit of your dreams.”
As you transition, as you have all your life, continue to lean on your loved ones for support. They are your biggest fan. They are always there for you. Be sure you are always there for them.”
Like they did at the walk through at the elementary school, the graduates were asked to look around for a final time at their high school, their family and their friends.
“It is obvious each of you has unique talents. It is time for those talents and your dreams to take you on your new journey as you make your mark on the world.
Lastly, no matter where you go and no matter what you do, stay safe, stay healthy, stay strong,” Skaluba said.
