Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce eceives grant to restore Pennsylvania Railroad sleeper-lounge car
State Rep. Jamie Flick, R-South Williamsport and state Rep Joe Hamm, R-Hepburn Township, together announced the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce is receiving $20,000 from America250PA as part of its Semiquincentenntial Grants.
According to a news release, the grant will go toward restoration of a Pennsylvania Railroad sleeper-lounge car.
“As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, I’m proud to support efforts that showcase everything Lycoming County has to offer,” said Flick, a member of the House Tourism, Recreation and Economic Development Committee, according to the news release. “Restoring a historic railcar not only honors our past, but it also invites people to visit, learn and invest in our future.”
“Congratulations to the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce upon receiving a Semiquincentennial Grant from America250PA,” Hamm said, according to the news release. “Lycoming County has a strong connection to our country’s founding as the Fair Play Men met beneath the Tiadaghton Elm on July 4, 1776, to make their own declaration of independence from Britain.”
The railcar will be used in Lycoming County along with the partnering counties receiving rail service owned by SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority and North Shore/Lycoming Valley Railroad, the chamber said in an email.
