State reminds motorists website can help with planning for traffic

The state Department of Transportation (PennDOT) encourages motorists traveling to Little League World Series games to plan their trip using the enhanced real-time travel and alternate-route information available on a specialized web page at www.511PA.com/map/page/LLWS.

These enhancements support Gov. Josh Shapiro’s commitment to providing accessible, real-time digital services to every Pennsylvanian, a news release said.

Hosted through the department’s www.511PA.com traveler information website, the page is dedicated to monitoring traffic conditions on the primary travel routes to the event: Route 15 south to Route 220 to Market Street (from north); Route 15 north (from south); Interstate 80 east to Route 220 north to Market Street (from west); and I-80 west to Route 15 north (from east).

“With this enhancement, our goal is to minimize congestion on the roads and focus on safe travel by providing motorists with as much information as possible,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll, according to the news release. “We encourage the public to use 511PA to plan the route that works best for them as they travel to this year’s Little League World Series.”

The page includes the average travel time for the primary route as well as one or two alternate routes. Users can see incidents, construction, traffic cameras, and traffic speeds on the map.

PennDOT’s Central Region Traffic Management Center is also supporting the Little League World Series by posting real-time travel information on changeable message signs.

Pennsylvanians traveling in and around the greater Williamsport area should be prepared for changing traffic patterns, slow-moving or stopped vehicles, and an increase in pedestrian traffic.

“This week, and always, please drive safely,” added Carroll. “Always pay attention when you are behind the wheel – put down your phone, it’s dangerous and illegal in Pennsylvania – and follow the posted speed limit!”

Motorists are encouraged to “Know Before They Go” by checking conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1.

Starting at $2.99/week.
