Muncy Borough Council approves employee pension contributions
Muncy Borough Council at its recent meeting approved the Minimum Municipal Obligation (MMO) for pensions of uniformed (police) and non-uniformed employees.
The borough’s MMO of $137,958 for all workers reflects a decrease of $36,418 from this year.
The borough’s three full-time police officers will not be required to put any funds toward their pensions while two other municipal employees are to contribute a total of $3,042, an increase of more than $400 from this year.
Council, as required, went ahead and approved a resolution officially reducing employee contributions to the police pension plan.
In other matters, council approved Keystone Collections Group to gather taxes for the borough.
Keystone will be paid 1.75% of the total amount of earned-income taxes collected.
Borough officials noted that using Keystone for tax collection will free borough employees from that work.
Various area municipalities and school districts have Keystone carry out their tax collection needs.
Council voted to contribute $5,000 to the Muncy Shade Tree Commission toward tree pruning along Brady and Grant streets and Noble Alley.
Council approved Dennis Wertman as a crossing guard on New Street.
Borough Manager Charles Hall reported that work at the Crossroads Corner park at Main and Water streets is on hiatus for two weeks.
“That project will be completed by Dec. 15,” he said.
He noted that the contractor for the project has been busy with other work.
Hall reported that the Department of Environmental Protection should be issuing a permit for the Carpenter Street Bridge rehabilitation project.
The borough’s final chipping day for the year will be Sept. 24, according to Hall.
Council met in an executive session following the meeting to consider personnel and legal issues.
The next council meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Muncy Junior/Senior High School Library/Media Center.
