Demolition of an old home and a former office space approved in Williamsport

Williamsport City Council has recently approved demolition of buildings at two locations in the city.

The first approval was for a property at 3537 W. Fourth St., which was a former veterinarian office, slated to become green space, according to Gary Knarr, city zoning administrator.

The second approval was for a house at 832 First St. The owner intends to tear down the house, Knarr said. The building is close to Maynard Commons, a developing area near Pennsylvania College of Technology campus.

There are vacant lots next to it and the owner said once the demolition is approved he will take steps to replace the razed space with another home.

Councilwoman Liz Miele confirmed through a question this would be for a single-family dwelling.

The owner has a building permit and was awaiting the demolition approval. He is eager to build, Knarr said.

Council President Adam Yoder said he was glad to see the plan to have improved housing, which is a plan the city officials want to see happen and welcomed.

Starting at $2.99/week.
