Kitchen fire leaves Limestone Township couple homeless

A Limestone Township couple was left homeless Monday afternoon after a fire which turned out to be electrical in nature broke out in their kitchen at 412 Shadle Road, according to Nippenose Valley Fire Chief Dean Miller.
“The homeowner had placed the stove in a cleaning cycle, and there was an electrical short that set fire to the kitchen cabinets and floor,” Miller said.
There were no reports of injuries, he said. The couple’s names were not released.
Heavy smoke was pouring from the home when volunteer firefighters arrived on the scene about
12:45 p.m., Miller said. It took about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. Besides Nippenose Valley, volunteer firefighters from Antes Fort, Jersey Shore and Nisbet responded to the scene.
Miller said the homeowner had fire insurance to cover the extensive= damage to the kitchen.
The couple was expected to be displaced for several weeks, he added, but might be back in the home by the first of the year.
