Lycoming County election official: Mail ballot return ‘going good’

With the Municipal Election Tuesday a little more than half of the approximately 5,600 mail in ballots requested by voters have been returned to Voter Services, according to Forrest K. Lehman, director of elections, who characterized it as “going good.”

“The last I checked, it was about 5,600 out the door and about half of that has come back, although that’s probably a little higher now,” Lehman told the Lycoming County Commissioners at their meeting this week.

“We’re getting a tray or two pack of ballots every day and of course those can come back up until Tuesday at 8 p.m. So, we’re going to keep receiving mail ballots back from people who requested them,” he added.

Lehman was also before the commissioners to request approval for a change order in the amount of $30,349 from H&P Construction to complete accessibility improvement at county polling place facilities.

“This, I think, will add in the last couple of facilities that weren’t already being looked at. So all of our polling places are now falling under either the first or the second contract,” Lehman reported.

“We have two new facilities there where we’re going to do some work. There’s three sites where some additional work was needed,” he said.

Lehman said it was inevitable with working on 70 sites, that there will be some that need extra attention.

In other actions, under personnel, the commissioners approved Scott Clinard and Donovan Ferguson as full-time correctional officers at the prison, union positions, at $20 per hour; and Justin Kontz as a full-time equipment operator in Resource Management at $21.08 per hour.

The next commissioners’ meeting will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 6 in the Commissioners’ Board Room, 3rd floor, Third St. Plaza, 33 W. Third St.

Starting at $2.99/week.
