No tax increase in South Williamsport

South Williamsport Borough Council has adopted the borough’s 2026 general operating budget of $3.1 million, or $3,146,217, which holds the line on any real estate tax increase.

Council voted to hold the property tax rate for combined general operations and fire protection at 5.48 mills.

This represents a no tax increase budget for 2026, said Steven W. Cappelli, borough manager and public safety director.

The borough’s sanitary sewer rate for 2026 also remains unchanged at $60 per month for one equivalent dwelling unit (single family home).

“We are increasing the MS4 storm water rate from $10 to $15 per month for one impervious area unit (single family home) to provide for the maintenance and operations of and upgrades to our levee and flood control pump stations,” Cappelli said.

Most notable, the borough enters the year ahead with an affordable 24-7 fire services compact with the City of Williamsport, a balanced budget, modest fees for vital services like sanitary sewer collection and treatment and storm water management and flood control, along with a new $3.1 million local government center and community room free of any debt, he stated.

“With stable and predictable tax rates and fees, a top-notch school district and low crime rates, South Williamsport remains one of the most competitive communities in our region for families and businesses,” he said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
